Why look for an Outlook alternative?
Outlook has been the default email client at work for decades, and for good reason: folders, a reading pane and keyboard shortcuts that make a busy inbox manageable. But many people now find it heavy. Classic Outlook is being phased out, and the new Outlook for Windows is a web app that runs in a window, with fewer settings, no COM add-ins and — for free Outlook.com accounts — ads in the inbox.
Most alternatives ask you to give up what made Outlook good. Gmail-style apps hide folders behind labels, “minimal” apps drop the reading pane, and power-user apps come with a monthly bill and a new set of habits. BoltSweep takes the opposite approach: keep the Outlook way of working, and remove the weight.
What BoltSweep keeps from Outlook
The three-pane layout with folders, the message list and the reading pane on the right or bottom. Your server folders exactly as they are — Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk Email and your own folder tree. Reply, Reply all and Forward right on the message. Pinned mail at the top, flags, and Outlook’s keyboard shortcuts.
Drafts live in your Drafts folder on the server, so a draft started in BoltSweep is there in Outlook on your phone. Your signature is imported from mail you’ve already sent, with your logo and formatting intact.
What BoltSweep does better
It is a native desktop app, so it opens quickly and stays responsive with large mailboxes. It runs on Linux as well as Windows and macOS. It connects directly to your provider instead of syncing other accounts through someone else’s cloud. It recolours emails properly in dark mode. And it lets you bring your own AI assistant instead of paying for one more subscription.
Switching takes two minutes
Install BoltSweep, choose “Sign in with Microsoft” or add any IMAP account, and your folders appear straight away. Nothing is moved or converted — your mail stays on the server, so you can keep using Outlook alongside BoltSweep for as long as you like.
