Why bring your own AI?
Most email apps now ship their own AI — and charge for it, cap it, or send your mail to a model you didn’t choose. If you already pay for Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini, that is the assistant you know and trust. BoltSweep simply connects it to your inbox.
Because requests go straight from your computer to the provider you picked, there is no BoltSweep AI service in the middle and no extra subscription. With a local model, your mail never leaves your machine.
What is MCP, and why does it matter for email?
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools safely. BoltSweep includes an MCP server, so an assistant like Claude can search your mail and read whole threads through a local connection you control. Preparing drafts is next on the list.
Typical uses: “What do I need to reply to today?”, “Summarise everything from Acme this month” or “Find the invoice Sofia sent in October.”
Built with security in mind
An email client that talks to AI has to assume that some emails are written to trick it. BoltSweep marks email content as untrusted, keeps assistants read-only by default, never lets them send mail, and access limits per account and folder are on the way.
